Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris scans Eyes for Authentication
Samsung has built in iris-recognition technology into it’s latest Galaxy Tab which is specifically made for the India’s government and enterprise community. The Galaxy Tab Iris supports Aadhar authentication, which is a very controversial biometric identification initiative operated by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). India’s government has been pushing more towards a cashless and paperless form of economy, relying heavily on biometric data collected by UIDAI for authentication and identification. Clearly these measures are not cost-effective, which is where Samsung with it’s new Galaxy Tab Iris come into play, providing an affordable product that can aid the process.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab isn’t the most innovative tablet out there by any means; Except for the Iris-scanner. It runs on Android 5.0, has a 7-Inch WSVGA (1024 x 600) display, 1.2-GHz Samsung quad-core processor, and a large 3,600 mAh battery. However, the one and the only aim of this tablet is to help speed up the authentication process for Indian citizens, and if it does that well, none of the specs would matter.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris will retail for $200 in India; However Samsung did not specify if the device could be purchased by general public.
