Xiaomi and the U.S.-based tech giant Microsoft has entered a deal as part of which, Microsoft is selling about 1500 of its patents to Xiaomi. Both the companies have called the deal a long-term partnership and for Xiaomi's part of the deal, it will be pre-installing Microsoft Office and Skype applications on its smartphones and tablets.
This deal is expected to play a crucial role in helping Xiaomi reach its goal of expanding to Western markets, especially the U.S. market. Xiaomi has been trying to expand its reach to the American region for quite long but due to issues related to patents, security, and legal aspects, it has not been able to do so.
Xiang Wang, SVP at Xiaomi said, “We are excited to be working closely with Microsoft on a broad technology collaboration partnership. As demonstrated by this agreement with Microsoft, Xiaomi is looking to build sustainable, long-term partnerships with global technology leaders, with the ultimate goal of bringing the best user experience to our Mi fans.”
