Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, usually known under its abbreviation BMW, is a German luxury vehicles, motorcycle, and engine manufacturing company founded in 1916. The German company has made headlines with releasing price list for the 2017 M3 and M4 and it again lists CarPlay as an option for its customers.
Despite of reportedly talks among the two companies, that is Apple and BMW, regarding former’s electric car project, BMW has long resisted Apple’s in-car infotainment system. And now, BMW seems to bring CarPlay to at least four of its model this year which includes, the X5 M and X6 M, as reported earlier this year.
The pricing guide of BMW shows CarPlay as being a $300 option on the M3 Sedan, M4 Coupe, and M4 Convertible. But there are no information regarding the wireless CarPlay in these latest models. Wireless CarPlay was added in iOS 9, but neither any carmaker nor aftermarket display currently supports it. We have seen the feature being demoed at CES earlier this year, but Apple reportedly did not like Volkswagen to demonstrate it.
Well, you must have seen a number of times in the past year that there were negotiations held among Apple with BMW, Daimler, and others regarding its electric vehicle project. But those talks could not make its way and left on a disagreement concerning to the data collection from vehicles. Again another separate report said that Apple could use Magna for its Project Titan, which is an Austria-based vehicle manufacturer used by BMW.
BMW will demo the CarPlay in its M3, M4, X5 M, or X6 M models, but price guides indicate that this feature is coming at long last. Well, it seems that BMW will issue software updates for models older than 2017.
Earlier this year, Apple introduced a new webpage on which there is a list of every major automobile manufacture that supports or plans to support CarPlay. Though, BMW is not yet added to the page despite of the indications to add support for the feature.
