Sound Forge gets its first new version in three years.
Berlin’s MAGIX Audio has resurrected Sound Forge Pro, the popular audio editor for Mac and PC it bought the rights to in 2016.
Sound Forge was developed by Sonic Foundry and sold to Sony in 2003, but the Japanese giant sold the program along with most of its creative suite to MAGIX last year.
While Sound Forge is only an audio editor for tasks such as audio restoration, mastering and sound design, it has a dedicated following, especially on Mac where such programs are a rarity.
MAGIX yesterday (May 16) announced the release of a brand new Mac version: Sound Forge Pro Mac 3. New features include loudness metering and two iZotope plug-ins, RX Elements and Ozone 7 Elements.
The company also announced plans to update its Sound Forge Audio Studio and Sound Forge Pro software for PC. Neither has been formally announced yet, but the former adds compatibility for the VST3 plug-in format, while Sound Forge Pro 12 promises to “raise the bar for audio editing and mastering”.
Sound Forge Pro for Mac 3 is out now, costing $299/€299. Sound Forge Audio Studio is released on August 8, with Sound Forge Pro 12 scheduled to land at the end of 2017.
