The USB Implementers Forum comprises companies like Google, Samsung, HP, Intel and many others work together on specifying the spec of USB Type-C. It's easier to use (it can be flipped on both sides), it goes faster (up to above 40Gbit/s). Alternate modes can be supported such as Thunderbolt, DisplayPort and the proprietary mode Slimport, the standard mode MHL by the MHL Consortium.
