GameSir G3s Review: Mobile Gaming Enhanced!

It’s time for another review here on gadgetz.tv but this time we have something a little different to show you. It is the GameSir G3S wireless gamepad which connects with smartphones to provide you with a way better gaming experience on mobile! But as you will see that is not the only thing it can do. Here is our full review on it.

GameSir G3s – In the box

The GameSir G3s comes with a complete package which includes everything you might need for it. Apart from the controller itself, inside the box you’ll find a cell phone holder that attaches to the controller, a very nice pouch for carrying it around and the necessary connectivity items. There is a USB dongle for using the G3s with a PC, and there is also a microUSB to microUSB cable for charging your device while playing. Lastly, there is a USB to microUSB cable for charging the controller itself.

GameSir G3s – Quality & Feel in the hand

Now let’s move on to more important stuff. How is the GameSir controller quality-wise? It is pretty good actually. It is constructed from plastic of course but it feels sturdy in the hand and like it could handle a few drops.

As someone who is not a console gamer, or any type of gamer for that matter, the GameSir seems perfectly fine to me. It has all the necessary buttons, such as triggers and analog sticks, and the four main buttong along with the analog sticks light up. Using the controller felt natural and easy to me. It cannot be compared with something like the Dualshock 4 of the Playstation 4, but for the price and functionality it is very good.

Since I mentioned functionality it should be noted that the GameSir will not only work with Android and PC, but with the PlayStation 3 and iOS devices as well. So it is a very versatile option that can potentially work with multiple devices you own.

But the main reason you are here is because you want to know how well it works with a mobile phone. So, let’s jump straight to that. Pairing is very easy, you just turn the controller on by pressing the home button, the by pressing Home+A simultaneously you indicate that you want to connect an Android device. Then you go to your device’s bluetooth settings, find the controller, press “Connect” and you are good to go!

And finally we arrive at the most important aspect. What games you can play with the controller. I was really excited to receive this product, but unfortunately I found out that game compatibility is not as big as I’d like. There are some very popular games though that support a controller. Games such as Asphalt 8 and Grand Theft Auto Vice City, which is probably my favourite GTA game. 

The best thing that the controller has to offer though in terms of compatibility is the fact that it works with emulators! If you are a fan of classic games then this will make your life so much better. Playing games like Pokemon with touch screen controls just isn’t the same. But with the GameSir controller you get back that tactile feeling that will make your gaming so much easier.

And as for other games compatibility GameSir has a solution for that as well. In order to make discovering games easier, they have their own emulator app called Happy Chick where you can browse and download games that will work with the controller. Unfortunately, it is mostly in Chinese, but navigation through it is not that difficult as the game names are in English and so are the categories labels.

Should you buy it?

So, should you get it? Well that depends. If you enjoy playing classic games on your phone then it is a must buy! If you spend a lot of time gaming on your phone in general, then again I think you should get a controller like the GameSir. While it might not work with all the games you play, it will surely enhance the experience of the ones that it does. Finally, if you are a casual games, then no, you probably shouldn’t get something like the GameSir G3s because. So in the end it is all up to you.

Just keep in mind that my main device is Android, so I’m not exactly sure how this particular controller with work with iOS devices or the Playstation 3. In my PC it worked fine by the way. You can find GameSir’s products at AliExpress and other online e-shops.
