Update: Sony Mobile has confirmed to us that the news is true, with the rationale for omitting the fingerprint scanner as a “business decision.”
Does Sony even pay attention to what’s going on in the rest of the world?
You can now buy cheap-ass China-brand phones and they all have fingerprint scanners!
Here’s the latest one: Red Pepper Note 3 Brings 1080p display, MT6753 & Fingerprint ID At Just $106
The main highlight of this smartphone is the presence of a fingerprint sensor which unlocks the phone in under 0.5 seconds.
Boldfaced emphasis in the original.
You look like the biggest idiots in the world now, Sony!
And the latest move on the C5 Ultra is just a sop: Xperia C5 Ultra receives Android 5.1 Lollipop
There’s a huge problem with that phone. The screens originate from two different suppliers. One screen is gorgeous with high-contrast and vibrant colors. The other is low-contrast with washed-out colors.
How can Sony expect people to buy it with that risk? It turns into a gamble.
And what’s the manufacturing split between the screens? Are 60% of the screens bad? Are 70%? It seems to me most phones would have the crap screen because that supplier is just churning them out. The other manufacturer has quality standards and so probably can’t match output.
Although B&H Photo carries the phone, there’s still no demo model (I was at the store yesterday).
And I even went to the Sony Store in NYC. Get this: It no longer displays any phones or tablets! I figured they’d at least have a C5 Ultra out for people to try. Sales staff could then refer people to Amazon to buy. But no!
As it turns out, I have to strike the C5 Ultra from my own list of contenders because of something I just learned from an Amazon review:
However my only complaint is the fact that it’s not compatible with Metro pcs.
That’s no good for me.
