Pokemon Go APK malware can compromise your device to hackers

The Pokemon Go game has been everywhere for a while. The game has risen straight to the top of both the Google Play Store and the App store within 48 hours of launching in the US.Well, this has created other users to download the game for their devices too. But there is something to be taken care of, there is a modified APK of the game available on various websites and this is a malware.
Sideloading the game from these unknown websites could compromise your device. The modified APK of the game comes with additional app permissions which are capable of giving full remote control over your device. The infected APK has been identified to contain DroidJack, which is a remote access trojan.
Android users are requested to download the game only through Google Play Store, while iOS has the ability defend the malware, this is a danger only to Android devices.
Well, there is a way to know whether the game you have installed is legitimate or not, just head to the app's information under settings and check the app permissions. Officially the game asks for only these permissions that are listed below.
  • Record audio
  • Directly call phone numbers
  • Modify your contacts
  • Edit, send, receive, and read SMS/MMS
  • Location
If you find more permissions other than what is listed above you have probably installed the malware. The malware APK of the game will ask for the following permissions.
  • Read web bookmarks and history
  • Connect and disconnect Wi-Fi
  • Run at startup
These permissions can compromise your device to the hackers. It is better to download the game from the official stores so that you can enjoy the game without any fear.
