Bluetooth headphone sales in June skyrocket with 42 percent rise than last year

Despite the huge criticism received by Apple on the decision of dropping the 3.5mm headphone jack on the upcoming iPhone might be actually well-timed. According to NPD,Bluetooth wireless headphones exceeded sales revenue over their wired variants in the US during the June month sales period. Bluetooth wireless headphones accounted for 54 percent of headphone dollar sales during June and 17 percent of the unit sales.
The entire headphone accounted for a 7 percent year-over-year increase in sale, while the Bluetooth headphones within that category enjoyed a whopping 42 percent increase during the time frame.
In first half of 2016, the sale of Bluetooth headphones had dipped 5 percent as compared to first half of 2015. To further emphasize the reduced barrier to entry, over a quarter of all Bluetooth wireless headphone units were sold under $50.
The top five companies to lead the wireless headphones are Beats, LG, Bose, Jaybird and Skullcandy order-wise. Additionally, NPD analyst Ben Arnold had this to say about the wireless trend:

Consumers are already embracing the wireless future and if, as rumored, the headphone jack is removed from the next iPhone, we expect this will continue to drive the market share of the Bluetooth category.
Even if the iPhone is released without the 3.5mm jack, most users would choose to ditch theLightning headphones or the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter and stay wireless. But, only the upcoming future will let us know. Till then, stay tuned!
