Huawei Technologies is one of the world’s largest telecommunications equipment suppliers. Between making global marketing moves, pushing the Honor lineup and releasing great flagships like the Nexus 6P, Mate 8 and the P9, Huawei didn’t exactly get a spot in the world’s leading smartphone brands alongside companies like Apple and Samsung. Huawei desperately wants to change this situation and is rolling up sleeves for a new strategy. Huawei is planning to setup 15,000 new stores around the world as a part of their quest to achieve a 140 million mark sale by the end of 2016.
A recent Q2 report showed a 25 percent year-on-year increase to over 60 million smartphone sales for the quarter. Richard Yu Chengdong, CEO of Consumer BG, Huawei said on Tuesday, “We are optimistic and confident about reaching our target shipment of 140 million smartphones this year.” He also added, “[The number of stores] is far from enough. We are going to open more stores overseas.” Huawei already has 35,000 stores around the world with 11,000 in China, 6500 spread around Asia, 6200 in Europe and 1500 in South America, with operations in over 170 countries supported by a growing number of third-party shops and carriers, Huawei’s presence is one of the top in smartphone marketing.
Huawei is clearly looking forward to become a household name in more number of countries by putting up physical locations that will get noticed and where consumers can actually experience the device before buying them, rather than buying them online. Even if the company is going ham on smartphone lineup this year, only time will tell if they’ll be able to snatch the top spots from Apple or Samsung.
