Q1 2015 Predicted to Bring More Tablet Shipment Decline

After Q4 2014 brought a serious decrease in tablet shipments, it’s time for Q1 2015 to underwhelm us. Digitimes and its analysts are predicting the poor trend of slate sales to continue this year, with the iPad also affected.

Thus, after moving around 21 million units last quarter, Apple is said to only ship around 13.1 million units for the first three months of 2015. That’s a 40% sequential decrease and Apple may need to hurry up that iPad Pro, to get their mojo back. On the Android side, Samsung is said to be laying back for a bit, which is obvious since they didn’t announce anything at CES, they may bring a new 12 inch tablet and affordable midrangers at MWC.
Meanwhile, Lenovo will take advantage of the lack of competition from new models and launch a few new slates, covering up more niches. Microsoft is also expected to get some traction with its Windows 10 tablets, once the OS is out. Digitimes research claims that the global tablet shipments for Q1 this year may reach around 52.15 million units, which is very underwhelming.
Reasons? Bigger phablets and tablet market saturation.
