Nubia Z11 Mini goes official with Snapdragon 617 CPU
The Nubia brand was always geared towards customers that valued beautiful design along with great specs in a device. Following that trend ZTE announced their newest Nubia device that belongs in the Z11 family. The new handset is theNubia Z11 Mini, which offers good specs with the emphasis being mainly on the camera.
Nubia Z11 Mini – Specs
The internals are nothing to blow you away as the Nubia Z11 Mini offers mid-range specifications. The CPU that ZTE chose is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 which is an octa-core processor at 28nm, with all cores being Cortex A-53. The SoC is accompanied by the Adreno 405 GPU and 3GB of RAM and an impressive 64GB of internal storage!
The screen found in the Nubia Z11 Mini measures in at 5 inches with a resolution of 1920×1080, which I am honestly fine with, since it almost always a perfectly fine viewing experience for most people plus it is good for battery life compared to a QHD panel. The battery capacity of the Nubia Z11 Mini is at 2800mAh. Furthermore, the newest Nubia by ZTE offers afingerprint scanner on the back.
The only thing that disappointed my when looking through the specifications is the fact that it will ship with an OS based onAndroid 5.1 Lollipop while every other OEM out there is announcing their newest devices with Android Marshmallow!
Nubia Z11 Mini – Camera
As I’ve already mentioned the Nubia Z11 Mini might be a mid-ranger but there is a big emphasis on the camera department. The sensor for the back camera is the Sony IMX298 which can capture images at 16MP. It is the same sensor that is used in devices like the Xiaomi Mi5 and the Huawei Mate 8. The camera has an aperture of f/2.0 and is also equipped with PDAF(phase detection auto focus). You can also capture shots in RAW format and the ISO goes up to 12800. In terms of video the Nubia Z11 Mini can record footage at 1080p resolution although that is probably due to the slightly under-powered CPU and not because of the camera sensor.
The front facing camera will offer selfies at 8MP of resolution. The sensor here has an individual pixel size of 1,4μm and the aperture is at f/2.4. Lastly, the lens can capture images at 80°.
Nubia Z11 Mini – Design
Design has always been a priority for Nubia devices and the same is true for the Nubia Z11 Mini. The device resembles its predecessors. For example the characteristic red circular capacitive home button is present this year as well. The frame is made out of metal and the glass at the front has curved edges. As we’ve seen from the press shots, in the Nubia Z11 Mini you will have the option to choose a wooden back panel, something which is a first for a Nubia smartphone.
Nubia Z11 Mini – Price and availability
Smartphones that belong in the Nubia brand rarely make it out of China and that will probably be the case for the Nubia Z11 Mini as well. But you’ll as always be able to get through resellers. The availability of the Z11 Mini will begin by the end of this month and the starting price is set at ¥1500 or around £160/€205.
It certainly seems like an interesting device but we are definitely waiting for the bigger devices in the Z11 family to be announced.
