Kodi 16.1 Released For Your Media Center Entertainment, Here’s What Is New

The development behind this excellent XMBC Media Center ‘Kodi’ an award winning open-source (GPL) for Linux, Mac OS X, Windows and other pltaforms. Has just released a new point version of the software. Version 16.0 of free Kodi platform codenamed Jarves – delighted users with the sheer amount of new functionality and power contained within when it was released not so long ago. However, the developers behind the scenes rightly point out in a blog post accompanying the release, all “final” versions will ship with some new bugs and/or problems usually appear out of nowhere, and this new release is no different, meaning final version of v16.1 here is to try and eradicate some of the larger issues that have been discovered in the initial Jarvis release.

To counter some of those issues, the developers have made available of this “maiantenance release” called 16.1 which has some additional fixes on top of the previous version 16.0. Was tested with a fairly expansive set of users, but when it went live and was downloaded and consumed by millions of people around the world, more bugs and stability cracks instantly appeared. So after five 16.0 beta seeds, three 16.0 release candidate versions, and one final Jarvis launch, we now find ourselves able to download Kodi 16.1 over that installation to fix a plethora of bugs and issues that have been occuring.
For that process, it should be ok to just install this on top of your current Kodi 16.0 version without uninstalling previous ones. This latest version includes a fairly comrehensive list of bug fixes that should relevantly make the Kodi experience a lot more extreme across all devices. Performance improvements have been achieved with 16.1, including a 20% performance gain when the electronic programming guide (EPG) window is launched. For the MySQL users out there, the team behind Kodi never bumped the database versions in their bugfix or maintenance releases – you can safely keep using it within your network.
The team has also bundled in fixes for rendering and fetching of content when DirectX is called into action. Mac users will find themselves an embedded fix for a troublesome crash that would apparently affect OS X 10.7 users when trying to resolve HDD names.
Official changelog of Kodi 16.1 is as follows:
