Nokia may be selling HERE Maps
The Finnish giant is moving away from its old business strategy and they want to make it known. Aside from the Alcatel-Lucent acquisition, Nokia has announced they are reviewing “strategic options, including a potential divestment, for its HERE business”.
An sell may or may not happen, but this announcement is likely to get more potential clients interested in the mapping service that graces Nokia smartphones. In fact, it was one of the main reasons why people chose Nokia smartphones, so it wouldn’t be a small acquisition.
Opinion: This statement makes it very clear that Nokia wants to move away from dealing directly with consumers. I just hope HERE Maps can stay alive, and they don’t just merge it into something else.
