Sony entering the affordable smartphone market in India
Affordable phones are especially important in emerging markets like India. In fact, no phone maker can say they have won in the affordable device competition if it doesn’t have a strong presence in India. This is why Sony is planning to compete in the Indian market with a new entry-level phone. Reports claim this phone will be priced between 8,000 and 10,000 Rs.
The deal here is that Sony is moving away from the affordable market everywhere else in the world. It seems it’s impossible to compete in India if you don’t have some affordable options.
Opinion: Manufacturers seem to be barely noticing that the affordable market is really where the business is at. We love our high-end smartphones, but which are the devices you recommend more often? Spoiler: it’s the low-priced ones that come with a fair build quality and acceptable experience.
