Nokia agrees to acquire Alcatel-Lucent
Nokia proved to be an amazing smartphone manufacturer for some time, but they have proven to be even better businessmen. They are selling and buying left and right, and today’s announcement is quite significant. Nokia has agreed to acquire Alcatel-Lucent for €15.6 billion (about $16.6 billion).
The deal is expected to close during the first half of 2016, after which the joint companies will retain Nokia’s branding. Meanwhile, Acaltel-Lucent will lead the way into Nokia’s future position in the IoT market. They will also use their R&D department to further improve their networking equipment.
Opinion: Nokia is moving a lot of chess pieces, trying to find its rightful position in this highly evolved market they once led. I am glad they are willing to adapt and choose their battles, really.
